Using Printable Vinyl with Inkjet Printer for Mug and Tumbler Decals

Using printable vinyl with an inkjet printer opens up the possibilities where sticker paper isn't a viable option.

For example you can make inkjet printable vinyl decals for tumblers and mugs because the adhesive is strong enough and you can (and should) add a layer of clear UV lamination vinyl to make the printable vinyl waterproof.

We made a set of custom Christmas mugs using these adorable sticker designs from the Christmas in July SVG and Font Bundle which come into the software ready-to-cut. 

We used Silhouette Studio and a Silhouette CAMEO machine to print and cut using registration marks, but the same can be done with Cricut or Scan N Cut. 

If you're unsure of how to print then cut on your machine you can follow these steps for beginners: 

Just be sure, instead of using sticker paper in your inkjet printer, you use Inkjet Printable Vinyl! The other supplies you'll need for the project are below:

 

After the printable inkjet vinyl is printed you'll want to cover it with a sheet of laminate film to make it water proof. Then cut with your cutting machine as you normally would cut a print and cut sticker!
