How to Make a Custom Multi Color Stencil (At Home!)

The Ikonart Stencil Making Kit is awesome for making custom reusable stencils...even for multi colors!

There are different ways to make a multi color stencil, but this easy stencil painting technique is awesome for beginners. The Ikonart Stencil Making Kit allows you to print any design on your inkjet or laser printer from the software of your choice and then turn into a DIY reusable stencil.

Here's what you'll need to make a screenprint stencil:

👉 Ikonart Custom Stencil Kit (use SILSCHOOL for an extra 15% Off)
😍 Inkjet or laser printer
👉 Paint/screenprinting ink
😍 White canvas garden flag (or other surface to paint!)
👉 Ikonart Textile add on kit (optional - black ink included in this kit):

We recommend opening PNG designs, like this Stressed Blessed and Baseball Obsessed cut file from the Sports SVG and Font Bundle, with Silhouette Studio. (Don't worry you don't need a Silhouette machine to use the free Silhouette Software - anyone can download and use it!)

After the design is printed on the stencil film, you'll need to expose it under the Ikonart light.  Since we're making a fabric stencil use - place a sheet of the purple textile stencil film (with the rough side up) on the base of the light. Cover it with the printed out sheet (so you can read it), and cover with the clear cover sheet. Expose for 35 seconds.

Rinse the stencil out and then let it dry for at least 45 minutes.

To use this reusable stencil as a multi color stencil scoop, place the stencil directly onto the fabric. We're using a small garden flag here.

Cover the area that you do want to painted with the first color. We just used some sticky notes.

Take a small bit of silk screen paint, like Speed ball, onto the silicon scraper and dab it above or the to the side of the area to be painted the first color. Use the scraper to gently and carefully pull the paint across.

Clean off the scraper or flip it around and repeat with the second color.

Carefully lift the stencil up! That's how easy it is to make a multi color stencil with Ikonart stencils!
