Open & Cut SVG Designs with Basic Edition Software Using the Silhouette Go App
The Silhouette Go App was designed as a way to quickly and simply open and cut pre-designed designs on Bluetooth Silhouette machines, which includes the Silhouette CAMEO 4, CAMEO 4 Plus, CAMEO 3, Portrait 3, and Portrait 2.
Let's look at how to cut SVGs with your Silhouette CAMEO without the need to upgrade from the free Silhouette Studio Basic Edition software.
First, you will need to download the Silhouette Go App for iPad/iPhone IOS or Android IOS. The app is currently in beta version (which means it's still being tested and user feedback is being collected to fix bugs.)
Once you have downloaded the app, open it up and sign in with your Silhouette Studio account.
Choose your machine. Currently you can use the Silhouette CAMEO 4, CAMEO 4 Plus, CAMEO 3, Portrait 3, and Portrait 2 machines with the Silhouette Go App.
Click the + sign marked DEVICE in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
Navigate to the folder where you have saved your SVG design. I am using Google Drive. Click on your design.
This will place the design on your mat.
Use two fingers to zoom out, if your design is bigger than the mat. Then draw a rectangle with your finger around all of the design and click to group it together.
Resize your svg design by using the bottom right corner arrows.
You can change your mat and media sizes.
Click Continue to Job Settings.
Here you will choose your Material, whether you want to Cut or Sketch, and the blade. You can also choose whether to mirror the design.
Click Continue. You can choose how to cut the image on this screen.
Click Continue.
Be sure your Bluetooth is enabled on your Silhouette machine. Click OK once it says it's connected.
Click Continue.
Click Continue and follow the on screen slides:
1. Place your media on the mat
2. Load Mat
3. Press Send.
The Silhouette Go App works with SVG files that you can access via cloud storage on your device, such as Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, iCloud, etc. While it does not have the full functionality of Silhouette Studio desktop version software, it does allow you to open SVG designs, and cut or sketch them without the need for an upgrade to Designer or Business edition.
