How to Unweld in Cricut Design Space: New Combine Menu Options

Ever use the Weld option in Cricut Design Space and then cringe when you can’t undo the step?

Cricut’s desktop version of Design Space has a new menu called Combine. And it’s reversible! This will allow you to unweld in Cricut Design.

Combine is located at the bottom of the layers panel.

There are 5 different tools under Combine: Weld, Unite, Subtract, Intersect and Exclude.

You can use these to create different combinations of text and shapes. And you can now undo the action if it doesn’t produce the results you want.

WELD allows you to combine several shapes into one solid piece. This action is permanent.

Once you close the project though, it can’t be undone.

Now there is a new tool to unweld in Cricut Design Space called Unite.

UNITE – works like Weld except it’s editable and reversible.

SUBTRACT – removes the top layer from the bottom layer

This feature blows Slice away! Now you don’t have all those extra pesky layers left over! SUBTRACT gets rid of them automatically.

INTERSECT – takes 2 layers and leaves only the pieces that intersected.

Anything left over once they INTERSECT is automatically removed.

EXCLUDE – takes 2 layers and removes anything that overlaps (opposite of Intersect)

This tool removes overlapping pieces but leaves everything that isn’t overlapping.

You can Undo any of the new actions or Merge the layers to make it a single cut layer in one click.

You can also access and edit the layers individually after you've used Unite, Subtract, Intersect or Exclude. This is a very cool feature that will enable you to customize your projects further within Cricut Design Space.
