How to Set Up Monogram Initials (2, 3, and 4 Letters)

This simple monogram guide will show you how to set up monogram initials with 2, 3 or 4 letters.

2 Letter Monograms
Two letter monograms are usually used when a person does not have a middle name.
Here's how to format a 2-letter monogram:
First Name Initial | Last Name Initial (both letters are the same size)
3 Letter Monograms
The most common monogram you'll come across is the traditional 3 letter monogram of a person's first, middle, and last initials.
Traditional three letter monogram:
First Name Initial | Last Name Initial (larger than other letters) | Middle Name Initial
Modern three letter monogram:
First Name Initial | Middle Name Initial | Last Name Initial (all letters the same size)
Married couple 3 letter monogram:
First name initial person 1 | Last name initial (larger) | First name initial person 2
Four Letter Monograms
There are several ways to format a monogram with four letters.
An individual with two middle names:
First Name Initial | Middle Name Initial 1 | Middle Name Initial 2 | Last Name Initial (all letters the same size)
An individual with two first names, one middle name, & one last name:
First Name Initial 1 | First Name Initial 2 | Last Name Initial (larger) | Middle Name Initial
Married individual with a hyphenated last name:
First Name Initial | Last Name Initial 1 | Last Name Initial 2 | Middle Name Initial (the last name initials are both larger)
Married individual with two first names and hyphenated last name:
First name initials 1 & 2 (stacked) | Last Name Initial 1 | Last Name Initial 2 (the last name initials are both larger)
Married couple with different last names:
First name initial person 1 | Last name initial person 1 (larger) | Last name initial person 2 (larger) | First name initial person 2
