How to Print Your Own Patterned Paper using Digital Patterns
Why make a trip to the craft store for patterned paper, when you can print your own at home?!
In this tutorial, we'll show you how to get started today with printable patterned paper at home.
First, load the paper you wish to print on into your printer. Use high quality, medium to heavyweight white cardstock.
We are using the Be My Valentine digital pattern pack.
You'll find these digital patterns in the December 2021 SVG and Font Bundle.
Open a new project in Silhouette Studio.
Next, set up your page size for printing - letter size 8.5 x 11.
Check the Show Print Border box - it adds a gray box into the page that shows the printer's printing margins.
Open the image file for your digital pattern.
Click File >> Merge.
Then select the desired digital pattern to open from the digital patterns saved on your computer.
The file opens at 12 x 12. This is bigger than our page size, but that's okay - because we want the pattern to cover the entire printable area of our page. (You can see the pattern extends beyond the gray outline of the print border.)
Select File >> Print.
You'll see a print preview of the digital pattern. The white space around the pattern shows the print margins of your printer. Click Print to continue.
Then, select the printer you wish to print from and then select Print Preferences.
See if your printer has a Borderless Printing option. If so, select it as it will allow the printer to print the digital pattern all the way to the very edge of the paper.
If your printer does not have Borderless Printing, that's okay, just print the pattern as large as possible on your cardstock (with the margins as small as possible).
Select your printer's highest printing quality and click Ok, then Print to send it to your printer.
Let the ink dry completely before handling. Then, check out your print-on-demand patterned paper! How cool is that?
If your pattern printed with margins, just take a paper trimmer and trim those white areas off.
Now, use this patterned paper as you would another other kind of patterned paper - like running it through your cutting machine to cut out Valentine's Day gift tags!
You'll find both the digital patterns and Valentine's Day gift tag SVG set used in this blog post in the December 2021 SVG and Font Bundle.

Note: the method of adding a digital pattern into Silhouette Studio shown in the timelapse is a method that can be done with Designer Edition of Silhouette Studio. But the results to make your own patterned paper are essentially the same.
