How to Spot Beginner-Friendly SVGs and Fonts ..and Avoid Two Common Mistakes!

There are two big mistakes beginner crafters make when they first get their machine - whether that's a Silhouette machine, Cricut, ScanNCut or some other die cutting machine.  I'm going to fill you in on them here so you can avoid them...

While there's definitely something to be said for jumping right in because this thing definitely isn't going to teach itself, skipping the basics can lead to big problems and headaches.

AVOID Mistake #1: Start with a Beginner Level Project

We have a series of beginner tutorials for almost any "First __Fill_In_The_Blank__" project you can think of..that will teach you the basics and allow you to then build on those skills.

Even if you've picked a beginner friendly project, if you haven't ALSO picked a beginner friendly design or font...you may not recognize that's why you're having issues!

AVOID Mistake #2: Pick an Easy to Cut Design or Font

Let's take a look a the October SVG and Font Bundle...it includes a mix of commercial free SVG designs and fonts, but there are some good beginner-friendly designs and fonts among them!

If you know what to look for you'll know how to pick an easy to cut design or font to start with!

Beginner Friendly Designs and Fonts are:

  • Single Color
  • Big and Bold
  • Thick Lines
  • No Small, Intricate Elements or Areas
  • Ready to Cut

The sticker set, for example, is designed with the offset already around each sticker so you can literally open in your program and get right to printing and cutting. It's a great set of beginner stickers for this reason.

Because the stickers are ready to cut, you can focus on learning how to make stickers on your Cricut, Silhouette, or Scan N Cut and leave any bit of the design and set up process to us!
