How to Make Giant Paper Flowers

This step-by-step tutorial will show you how to make giant paper flowers using your die cutting machine & cardstock.

We are using the paper flower svg designs from the April 2022 SVG Design & Font Bundle:

Cut out the paper flower templates with your cutting machine of choice. We are using Silhouette Studio.

Size the flower template as large as you can fit on a 12 x 12 inch piece of cardstock.

Use a mid to heavyweight cardstock like 60-80 lb. weight cardstock.

Cut out 3-4 of the paper flower templates.

Roll all the petals of each flower toward their centers using a marker or other round tool.

Take one flower and bend the petals up towards each other into the center very tightly. This will be the "rosebud" which you'll use for the center of the flower.

Use glue to hold the petals together.

Repeat with the other two flowers, but don't bend them in so tightly. These will be the outer layers of the flower.

Place glue in the centers of the flowers and layer them together.

Glue the "rosebud" in the center.

Once the glue is dry you can continue to roll (or unroll) the petals to shape the flower as you like.

You can make even larger flowers by cutting out the flower petals individually.

Use design software on your computer to separate one petal from the rest of the flower.

Size the individual petal to as big as you can fit on the 12 x 12 cardstock.  Cut it out so you have 8-12 copies.

Resize that petal slightly smaller and cut out 8-12 copies of it.

Resize it even smaller again and then cut out 8-12 copies of that one.

You should have 8-12 copies of each size petal: large, medium, and small size.

You'll also need to cut 2-3 of the original flower templates and a large cardstock circle.

To assemble this giant flower, start by rolling the petals back with a marker or other round tool.

Take scissors and make a small cut into the base of the petal to create two tabs.

Place glue on one tab. You can use hot glue or a strong white glue.

Place the other tab onto the glue and press to adhere them together. This makes the petal kind of "stand up." Do this with all the individual petals.

You'll start gluing the individual petals onto the cardstock circle. Start with the largest petals on the outside.

Continue gluing petals onto the cardstock circle, working your way towards the center using the medium petals, then the smallest petals next.

Make a flower center rosebud and add some glue on the bottom...

... and glue it into the center of the flower.

How to Attach the Flowers to the Wall

For the greatest stability, glue a cardboard circle onto the back of the flower. You'll need to trace and cut it out by hand.

Attach the flower to the wall by sticking non damaging wall hangers, like 3M Command strips, to the back of the cardboard circle and press on to your wall.

Make as many as you like and starting hanging them up to create your own beautiful DIY wall decor!
