DIY Wire Wrapped Words: Beginners Tutorial

In this tutorial, we're showing you how to use a script heart font as a template to create custom wire wrapped words and simple shapes.

Print out a short word in the Merlina Darling script font on regular copy paper.

You can find the font used in the January 2022 SVG Design & Font Bundle.

Print the word fairly large.

Cut a length of jewelry wire longer than you'll think you'll need for the word. The swoops and whirls of the word require more wire and you can trim excess wire.

Use round nose pliers and other items with a gentle curve on them (like a pencil or marker) to help bend the wire. Avoid pliers with crimps in them because those will leave marks in the wire.

Use the printed font as the guide to create your letters.

Try doubling up the wire. This gives the finished word or shape (like these hearts) a different look and more visual weight.

Wouldn't these wire wrapped hearts look so darling on a Valentine's Day themed wreath?
