Cricut Design Space: Mastering the WELD Tool
The WELD Tool is used to connect overlapping designs. It is especially helpful when you need to connect the letters of your text and is a tool that you will use often in Cricut Design Space.
This golden tool allows you to remove the cut lines between intersecting areas so your cut is seamless and fluid. Ahhhh, just the way we like it!
Say goodbye to disconnected letters and learn to Master the WELD Tool!
Let's open up a new canvas in Design Space.
Type your text. This is the perfect time to use your favorite script or cursive font.
We are using the gorgeous Castelo Script Font.
---> Be sure to check out 15 Script Fonts Perfect for Crafters & Designers.
Next resize the text to approx. 10" wide.
This size will get smaller once we change the spacing between the letters and you can resize as needed for your project.
Change the LETTER SPACE to .4 and then click on UNGROUP above your text layer:
Now select the third letter (which is "l") and using the left arrow key on your keyboard, move it over until it touches/overlaps the "e".
Do this with each letter until they are touching and then select all layers and change the color of the text so you can see the overlap.
Select all of the layers/letters and Click WELD in the bottom of the layers panel:
Now your text will cut as one seamless & fluid piece!
Click MAKE IT and check out your project mats to see your cut:
Another way to use the WELD Tool is with shapes, svg designs, and/or a combination with text.
Let's try this technique with a few SVG designs and connect them to cut as one seamless piece.

Then select the 2nd Doodle Set and click UNGROUP.
Delete the bird, balloon, talk balloon and flower layers.
Keep the swirl from the 2nd Doodle Set.
Arrange the hearts so they overlap & place a heart on each end of the swirl. ---> You can duplicate layers to create more if needed.
Change the colors of the new designs you have assembled so you can see the cut lines:
Select the 2 hearts with the swirl and click WELD.
Then select the heart border you created and click WELD.
Click MAKE IT to see your finished designs on their designated cutting mats.
Tip: If you want to cut them from the same sheet, make their colors identical before you click MAKE IT.
