How to Put Heat Transfer Vinyl on Oven Mitts

In this step-by-step tutorial, we will show you how to put heat transfer vinyl on oven mitts

You can use either smooth or quilted oven mitts, just be sure to pay extra attention during pressing onto the quilted mitts because of the thickness.

Cut the desired design into heat transfer vinyl with your Cricut, Silhouette or ScanNCut machine.

We are using baking svg designs from the Bundle of Bundles 6.0 SVG Design & Font Bundle:

For most heat transfer vinyl (HTV) designs, you will need to mirror or reverse the design prior to cutting.

Weed out the excess HTV from around the design. You may find weeding easier if you leave the HTV on your cutting machine's cutting mat. The sticky mat holds the HTV down while you lift up and away the excess.

We recommend placing the HTV design near the bottom of the oven mitt and on the side less likely to touch a hot pan or the oven.

Place a pressing pillow or a folded towel underneath the oven mitt while pressing.

Cover the design with a cover sheet or piece of parchment paper. This protects both the design and your heat press or iron.

For Siser Easyweed HTV, using a heat press, press the HTV design onto the oven mitt for 10-15 seconds at medium pressure at 305 degrees F.

If you're using an iron with your heat transfer vinyl, set your iron between the Cotton and Linen setting and press each area of the design with firm pressure for 10-15 seconds. Do not slide the iron, just press the iron straight down and lift it straight up.

Personalized oven mitts with HTV make great gifts!
