How to Download & Open Fonts on the iPad
This tutorial will show you how to download fonts from So Fontsy and install them on your iPad.
Log in to your So Fontsy account and navigate to the order containing the font you would like to download to your iPad.
**I am using an iPad Pro so features may be different depending on your model.
Click Download Single next to your font. I am using the Cooper Jackson font.
Open the Downloads folder on your iPad.
Click on the zip folder and then click on the blue folder that appears.
This will show you the font files.
The Cooper Jackson font includes the .WOFF, .OTF, and the .TTF formats.
The difference between these font formats is the amount of information they contain.
-
OTF means OpenType Font that is fully scalable. So any resizing will not affect its quality. It includes the advance typesetting features within the single font file so extra file is need for glyphs (aka special characters or dingbats), alternates, ligatures, etc.
-
TTF means TrueType Font and it's properties are similar to the OTF except glyphs are not included.
-
WOFF means Web Open Font Format. It's a compressed font file that loads fast online.
For design purposes, I always choose the .OTF format. It includes all of the special glyphs, characters, dingbats, swashes, etc that we love to use in our designs packaged into 1 font file.
Now we need to install them on your iPad. In order to do that, you will need a font installer app, such as iFont.
Open iFont and click Find Fonts to Install
Click on Open Files:
Navigate to your downloads folder and open the blue folder that contains the font files.
Click SELECT in the top right corner:
Now select the Cooper Jackson .otf file and click DONE:
Navigate back to the iFont Installer at the bottom of the app and click on INSTALL:
Click ALLOW when the window pops up:
Click Close & Done:
Now you must navigate to the iPad Settings.
Click on General & then Profile:
Now click on the font name and click INSTALL:
Now you will need to enter your iPad passcode.
Then click INSTALL in the top right hand corner:
When the pop up shows up, click INSTALL again:
Click DONE:
Voila! Your font is now installed on your iPad.
Open Cricut Design Space and a quick search for Cooper Jackson confirms the font is installed.
