Cricut Iron On Vinyl Tutorial: T Shirt

A very popular Cricut project is creating a t shirt using Iron on Vinyl. Here's a quick Cricut Iron On Vinyl tutorial to show you how to use it on a t shirt.

For making t shirts with your Cricut, the regular Everyday Iron On Vinyl is a good choice. Place the iron-on vinyl onto your Cricut mat with the shiny-side facing down. Roll a brayer across the vinyl to make sure it sticks.

The t shirt design we're using for this project is one of 146 t shirt SVGs you can find in the Ultimate Tshirt SVG Bundle.

In Cricut Design Space, be sure to select the correct cut settings for the type of Cricut Iron On Vinyl you are using.

Weed out the excess vinyl from around the t shirt design.

Here are the instructions for using a regular home iron with Cricut Iron on Vinyl and a 100% cotton t shirt.

How to Iron Cricut Iron on Vinyl on a shirt

  1. Set iron to the Cotton/Linen setting (generally the highest temperature setting) with the steam off.

  2. Preheat the t shirt for 10-15 seconds.

  3. Place the weeded Iron on Vinyl t shirt design with the liner side up onto the preheated t shirt.

  4. Apply medium pressure with the iron for 25-30 seconds.

Lastly, flip the shirt inside out and apply medium pressure with the iron to the back of the design for an additional 20-30 seconds.

Let it cool completely before removing the HTV mask.

Ta-da!

Now you are ready to start using Iron On Vinyl to make t shirts with your Cricut cutting machine!

You'll have plenty of t shirt designs to choose from (including the one used in this project) in the Ultimate Tshirt SVG Bundle.
