How to Open Special Characters, Dingbats, Glyphs in Cricut Design Space

A question we often get is how to find those special characters, also known as glyphs & dingbats, that are come with a font...like that awesome swirl at the end or some playful doodles.

So let's learn how to locate & add them to our project in Cricut Design Space:

Open up a new project in Cricut Design Space.

We are using the Christmas Stars Font
Click on Text and add the word you would like to use.
Choose KH Christmas Stars Decorative font from the drop down list.
Adjust the size of your word so it's easier to work with on your screen.
I made this one approx. 14" wide - you can scale it to whatever size you need for your project.

MAC instructions:

Open the Font Book application and search for the font you are using in Design Space that contains the glyphs/special characters you would like to use.
I typed in KH Christmas Stars Decorative and then highlighted that font in the list.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: Make sure you are viewing the font in Repertoire mode. It's the little box with a bunch of perfectly spaced dots in the top left hand corner of your Font Book window.
----> This is the only way to see all of the special characters associated with the selected font. It will then show you the glyphs (special characters) available.
I want to use the stars so click on the star in the panel so it's highlighted and Copy it (Command +C or Edit -->Copy).

Now click on Text in your Cricut Design Space canvas and Paste (Command +V or Edit -->Paste) the glyph.
This will place the glyph into the text box BUT it will only show a small rectangle in the box where you type.
Your glyph will now be on the canvas.

To finish this Farmhouse with Stars design:

Resize the star, change the color & duplicate the star layer twice so that you have 3 stars.

Move the stars above the word Farmhouse and stagger the center one a little bit higher. I used the grid on the canvas to line them up.
Once they are where you think you'd like them, select all 3 star layers and click ALIGN: DISTRIBUTE HORIZONTALLY.
This will create equal space between them.

Now choose the attached star layer and the text layer and click ALIGN: CENTER HORIZONTALLY.
With all 3 star layers selected, click WELD in the bottom right hand corner.

It is time to cut your project!
You can choose to cut this as two colors by clicking MAKE IT.
This will separate the mats into 2 colors:

Or can choose both layers and click ATTACH.
This will create one mat with one color:
