Cricut Design Space for Beginners - Part 1

If you are just starting your crafting adventure with a Cricut Maker, Explore or Joy, this is a great overview of the basic features of Design Space.

First let's open Cricut Design Space on your computer.

On the left hand side there are several menu items. Let's check them each out and see how they work....

1. New Project

This will enable you to start with a new, blank canvas.

2. Templates

If you click on this button, you will see various templates for common projects made with a Cricut.

Click on a template to use this as a background for your designing....it really helps with visualizing.

Please keep in mind that the template will not cut or print with your project. Templates disappear once you leave the canvas.

This design has now been re-sized to fit onto the Large Women's t-shirt. Isn't that awesome?! Use the templates to minimize waste of vinyl.

You can find the It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Shopping SVG Cut File in the So Fontsy Christmas in July Bundle.

3. Projects

Here is where you will find projects that you can complete using Cricut designs & instructions.

If you use the drop-down menu, you can filter the results, including the FREE category.

4. Images

Images are designs within Cricut Design Space that can be filtered by type, brand, materials used, and my favorite, ownership (which allows you to find FREE designs).....

If you want to use an image, just click on it and click Insert Image:

5. Text

This is what you click to add text to your design. It will automatically pull up this box. Type & then use the Font drop down menu to choose your fonts.

Drag the arrow to resize or set the size in the top menu.

6. Shapes

Shapes allow you to add basic shapes and score lines to projects.

7. Upload

This is where you upload your own designs including SVGs, PNGs, JPGs, etc.

Click on Upload then Upload Image:

Once you upload your design, create a name and tags for your images so you can quickly search for them in the future.

I just love this design! You can find the Coffee Because It's Too Early For Beer SVG Cut File in the So Fontsy Mug & Tumbler Bundle

We hope this simple overview of Cricut Design Space was helpful!

Just
Had cricut machine for years and just blundered through. Took a class, but did not learn a lot, never as thorough as the easy to follow tutorials that are on your web site. Have printed all of 1&2. Thank you.
